A new study by Penn State University shows that the state going to be losing the number of people who hunt deer.
Researchers say many deer hunters are aging out of the sport, and that could force officials to come up with new deer management strategies.
Penn State agricultural researchers say that recreational deer hunting is the primary tool to manage the number of deer, but add that the number of hunters over the next 10 years is going to decline steeply.
No formal strategies have been laid out in order to keep the deer population manageable, but one researcher suggested it’s important to try and recruit new hunters.
