Federal prosecutors rejected a plea deal offered by the man accused of killing 11 people inside the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh nearly one year ago.
According to our news partners at WPXI-TV, court documents revealed that 47-year-old Robert Bowers offered to plead guilty in exchange for a sentence of life in prison. That offer was turned down.
Prosecutors with the U.S. Justice Department filed notice of intent in August that they intend to seek the death penalty. Prosecutors have also asked the judge to force the defense to agree to a schedule that would have jury selection in the trial begin in September of 2020.
Bowers is allegedly being held in the Butler County Prison. He was transferred there in the days after his arrest last October.
