Late last week a state Senate committee moved forward with a constitutional amendment that could put abortion rights in Pennsylvania in jeopardy.
It passed via a party line vote in the Rules and Executive Nominations committee late Thursday night.
Republicans say the amendment would give the Legislature the power to determine the future of abortion rights, however Democrats counter that this move is the first step to end abortions.
But, since it would amend the state’s constitution, it’s a question that would be posed to the voters instead of lawmakers. It’s not expected to hit the ballot for at least a year.
