A project to improve traffic flow through multiple municipalities along the Route 356 corridor is moving ahead.
According to Butler Township Manager Ed Kirkwood, a meeting was held with the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission last week about problem areas in need of attention.
Although Butler Township contributed slightly over $50,000 to this project, the majority of the funding is available through a grant totaling nearly $1 million. Other municipalities will also be part of this work, including the City of Butler with improvements to traffic control devices anticipated.
Engineering on the project is expected to be complete by the end of 2016 then the work will be put out to bid through the SPC with an estimated completion date sometime in early 2018.
