The Butler County Prison is budgeting for an on-site dentist for a couple of hours a week to deal with a growing list of inmates who need dental work.
Prison officials say that more than 100 people inside the jail are awaiting dental care, whether it be for regular check-ups or other issues.
A dentist will be brought on site for about six to eight hours a week, and also will be on-call 24/7 for emergency needs.
Prison officials say right now, it’s difficult to get inmates to dentist offices in order to receive care—sometimes going as far as Erie for appointments.
