The Butler County Prison hopes to make an additional $100,000 by switching to a different commissary provider.
Inmates can purchase commissary items while incarcerated, including snacks, hygiene items and games. Oasis Management Systems will now handle the supply of those items.
Warden Joe DeMore says the cost to inmates won’t increase but the county will now make a 19 percent commission on items, leading to the $100,000 per year increase.
The Butler County commissioners approved the contract with Oasis Thursday. The five-year agreement begins May 1.
