Thousands of people waited in line over the weekend to hear President Donald Trump speak in western Pennsylvania, including some people from Butler County.
Jim Keffalas of Butler was there. He’s one of six representatives from Butler County to sit on the Republican Party of Pennsylvania’s state committee.
“There were a lot of people there. The line was very long but it was pretty well organized. We were on the president’s right side- about 40 to 50 feet away,” Keffalas said in an interview Monday.
He and his wife Karen attended the event, which was held inside an airport hangar in Allegheny County. During the visit, Trump appeared onstage with congressional candidate Rick Saccone, who faces 18th District voters on Tuesday.
Keffalas said the mood at the Saturday event was joyful and respectful. He estimated between 5,000 to 6,000 Trump supporters were inside.
“I did not see any protesters,” Keffalas said. “Everyone was really respectful.”
According to Keffalas, the president spoke about immigration, steel and aluminum tariffs and the need to create a level playing field with our trading partners.
“The biggest cheer from the crowd came when the president was talking about immigration and said ‘We have to build the wall’….the crowd broke out in a chant “Build the wall!,” he said.
The president also said he “loves the people of Pennsylvania” and thanked the crowd for helping get him into office, according to Keffalas. He also talked about attending school at the University of Pennsylvania.
