Work is continuing on the Butler Transit Authority bus garage in Butler City in order to prepare it for the arrival of new compressed natural gas buses.
Work includes more paving outside the Pullman Center garage, and changes to the garage doors in order to accommodate the new buses.
Executive Director John Paul told the Board of Directors that the work has revealed that contractors hired to build the original facility did not meet specifications in areas such as the thickness of pavement and burying electrical lines deep enough.
The CNG buses are expected to arrive by October. Three CNG buses are expected to be used for local transit and five CNG coach buses are slated to be used for commuter service to Pittsburgh.
The Butler bus garage has also been chosen to receive a compressed natural gas fueling station but that project will not be completed by the time the buses arrive so a temporary fueling source will be utilized.
