UPDATE (3 p.m.): The number of power outages to homes in Butler County continues to decrease, but also fluctuate. Ken Maleski of Central Electric Cooperative:
“Right now, things are going a little slow only because what is left are outages where there might be only one or two people at the end of the tap and it takes the same amount of time to restore a power line for one or two people as it does to open up a larger feeder that maybe brings up a hundred people at the time.”
As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, there about 75 outages still remaining. The majority of those are to CEC customers. Wednesday morning, West Penn Power was reporting as few as 10 outages, but then that number jumped back up to 150. It’s now back down to roughly nine customers without power.
The CEC is trying to get power restored for the remaining outages before Thursday’s holiday especially with very cold temperatures expected. According to Maleski, the manpower is in place to accomplish that goal.
“We have every crew available working with us. As we speak, we have not only all of our crews assigned and working but we also have twelve outside crews from seven other electric cooperatives throughout the state who have made a decision to stay with us until the very last outage is restored.”
Following an ice and snow storm last Thursday that tumbled hundreds of trees and power lines, more than 45,000 power customers in Butler County were without service.
