Plans to close a controversial Butler Township bridge are again being discussed.
PennDOT says they are planning to remove the Lions Road Bridge over Route 422. They then wouldn’t replace the bridge but rather build another way around. Several plans are being discussed.
Plans to close the bridge doesn’t sit well with Butler Township officials who say alternate plans (instead of fixing the existing bridge) would cause difficulties for first responders and make the road less safe for drivers.
Controversy surrounding the bridge came to light last year when a state inspection uncovered structural damage.
All plans are preliminary.
