A local borough council may increase property taxes for the upcoming year in order to hire another police officer.
The Saxonburg Council will look to increase taxes by 1.5mil to cover the costs of hiring a second full-time police officer. Currently, there are twelve part-time borough officers, with Chief Joe Beachem being the only full-time officer.
The council says that it will cost an extra $15,000 to cover the new officer’s equipment and benefits. The amount includes the money the borough will save by cutting back on other officers’ hours.
