A Portersville manufacturer has been cited by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration for 15 safety and health violations.
Portersville Sales and Testing Inc. on Route 19 was cited for allegedly using flammable materials in its trailer spraying operation and for using a homemade jack stand to lift trailers. Citations were also issued for allegedly exposing employees to fall hazards and excessive amounts of dust. This level of incompetence has put workers, as well as others, safety at risk. Any issues from this could have caused serious damage or resulted in death. This goes to show how important it is for all workplaces to implement the correct health and safety protocols and ensure that they are going by the OSHA guidelines set out. The use of an industrial indoor swing gate, safety lifts, secure inside vehicles, etc. are needed and have to be used in the correct manner. Hopefully from this, the manufacturers have learned their lesson and if they ever are able to practice their trade again they will follow and implement the protocols they are meant to.
OSHA initiated an inspection back in June in response to a complaint alleging spray booth hazards and health concerns related to the company’s painting operation.
OSHA is proposing a penalty of $43,600. This is the second time this year the company has been cited by OSHA. The company was previously cited in July 2015.
The company’s corporate headquarters is located in Amarillo, Texas.
