The South Butler County School District administrators expect to have more information next month about security needs following a threat assessment.
Superintendent Dr. David Foley said during a school board meeting Wednesday that State Police will perform the assessment the second week of February.
The report will include a review of safety plans and facilities, as well as staff interviews and an audit of mental health support available.
A state grant for $25,000 to help with additional police has already been received, and another $800,000 in grant funding has been requested by the district to help pay for security improvements and upgrades, which could include metal detectors.
The South Butler school district has dealt with several social media threats within the last week and a half, at times operating on a “modified lockdown.”
