The Butler Township Police are utilizing a new piece of equipment to help address roads with speeding problems.
Officers provided a report to the Butler Township commissioners during a meeting on Wednesday night about the recent placement of a Speed Alert 24 radar sign on Belmont Road for the past four weeks.
This equipment is able to show motorists the speed limit and their vehicle speed, as well as collect data including average speed and total number of violators. Officers say about 3 percent of people traveling on Belmont Road during that time frame were traveling 35 miles per hour, or faster, in a 25-mph zone.
The radar sign was purchased last fall and has been used by police since the spring on several different roads that have been identified by officers or residents as problem areas.
The sign has now been moved to East Brady Street.
