Plans are moving forward for the construction of a large medical facility in the city of Butler.
The city planning commission recently recommended waiving a parking requirement for a 30,000 square foot cancer clinic planned for an area near Pullman Center Business Park by Allegheny Health Network.
City Building Code Official John Evans told our newsroom that the parking requirement for this center could be reduced by about 50 spaces. Parking requirements are based on usage and size. The facility will still have over 220 spaces.
Butler City Mayor Ben Smith is looking forward to seeing more extensive and detailed plans but at this point, he does not see any reason not to follow the commission’s recommendation.
“Basically what that is, is providing evidence that they had done actual studies to say that they don’t need as much space. So the long and short is that as long as those studies hold up and it matches with the provisions in the code, I wouldn’t see a reason not to take their recommendation. It’s great to see development; its great to see jobs both short term and long term. I think its good. I think its a good thing and I’m pretty certain that council will share that.”
City Council is expected to take action to finalize approval for this parking requirement request at a hearing scheduled for their Agenda setting meeting on January 23rd.
