The annual Three Rivers Regatta in Pittsburgh has been cancelled just days before it was to begin.
Butler Radio’s news partner WPXI-TV is reporting the Regatta did not secure permits or insurance for the summer’s event. The vendors have been told to not set up this weekend and contractors were told to stay home.
Sources say the promoter of the event did not show up at a special events meeting planned for Tuesday morning.
Event Director for the 2019 Moraine State Park Regatta Amanda Becker said she doesn’t want to capitalize on another organization’s misfortunes, but she does believe this will have an impact on this weekend’s Regatta here in Butler County.
“I think if people were planning to attend the Three Rivers Regatta with their families they are now looking for something else to do this weekend,” Becker said just moments after learning of the cancellation news on Tuesday. “It’s supposed to be a beautiful weekend and I think the Moraine State Park Regatta is a great place to come.”
This Saturday and Sunday will be the 21st year for the Moraine State Park Regatta- which was formerly known as The Regatta at Lake Arthur.
It centers on Lake Arthur’s South Shore in Portersville. In recent years, it has attracted nearly 20,000 visitors to the park.
