The nearly two-month long Pittsburgh Symphony strike has been resolved.
The musicians union and the PSO management were able to reach a five year agreement Wednesday. Musician salaries will be cut by ten percent this year and frozen next year before raises the next two years get the base salary back to what it was before the strike in the final year of the deal. An anonymous donor has provided additional compensation that will minimize the effects of the pay cut.
Management expenses and compensation were also cut by nearly a million dollars during the negotiation process.
The Pittsburgh Symphony will offer two free concerts to celebrate their return December 2nd and 4th at Heinz Hall. Tickets for those shows must be reserved through the box office by calling 412-392-4900.
