The Pitt football team fell to Michigan State 31-21 last night in the Peach Bowl played in Atlanta.
The Panthers played the majority of the game with third string quarterback Davis Beville, who took over after Brian Pattie was knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury in the first quarter. Pattie was injured diving for the first Pitt touchdown of the night. He was the Panthers starting quarterback in place of Heisman Trophy finalist Kenny Pickett, who skipped the bowl game to prepare for the NFL draft.
Pitt led most of the game, but Michigan State posted 21 points in the fourth quarter, including an interception return for a touchdown late in the game. Pitt had moved into field goal territory trailing 24-21, when the Spartans returned a Beville pass for the final score.
It was Pitt’s first major bowl game appearance in over a decade.
Purdue won the Music City Bowl 48-45 over Tennessee in overtime. The win gave the Boilermakers a nine-win season, tying for the second-most wins in program history.
South Carolina defeated North Carolina 38-34 in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
Wisconsin defeated Arizona State 20-13 in the Las Vegas Bowl.
