The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Colorado Rockies 6-3 last night in Denver. The victory reduced the Pirates magic number to clinch a playoff spot to one. The Pirates scored all of their runs over the first four innings. Starling Marte, Francisco Cervelli and Josh Harrison had two hits each. Aramis Ramirez added a triple. Pirate starter J.A. Happ picked up his 10th win of the season. Happ pitched into the sixth inning, allowing three runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out eight. The Bucs visit the Rockies again tonight at 8:40pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 8:15pm.
The St. Louis Cardinals are the only team in the major leagues to have clinched a playoff spot. The Cards remain four games in front of the Pirates after defeating Cincinnati 3-1 last night. The Chicago Cubs defeated Milwaukee 4-0. Jake Arrieta won his 20th game of the season with a complete game, three-hit shutout.
