It wasn’t Jameson Taillon’s best start in a Pirates jersey, but with a rallying effort by the offense, the Bucs won their third straight in Milwaukee with a 9-6 victory.
Taillon made it through three innings, surrendering five runs on seven hits. He left the game with his team trailing 5-1, but a five run fourth inning turned the game into the favor of the Pirates as they took a 6-5 lead into the bottom half of the inning.
Enter Jeff Locke. His first pitch to Brewers relief pitcher, Tyler Cravy, quickly left the ball park traveling over 400 feet tying the game at 6-6.
Gregory Polanco, who was benched following his 0-11 hitless streak, came to the plate with bases loaded and one out. He responded with a three RBI double to right field giving the Pirates their 9-6 lead, which they held to for the rest of the game.
Neftali Feliz picked up the save, and Jeff Locke picked up the win–tying Juan Nicasio for the team lead in wins with nine.
The Pirates now sit -1.5 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second wild card spot.
The Pirates look for the four-game sweep in Milwaukee, an feat that has never been accomplished.
