The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-2 last night in the Windy City. Jung Ho Kang hit a first-inning home run for the Bucs and starting pitcher Jeff Locke picked up his fourth win of the season. He struck out eight batters while allowing the two earned runs. The Sox scored twice in the sixth inning, snapping the fourth-longest scoreless streak for Pirate pitchers at 35 innings. Mark Melancon earned his 22nd save of the season.
The Bucs and White Sox wrap-up their series tonight. Gerrit Cole will be seeking his 11th victory of the season. First pitch is 8:10pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 7:45pm.
The Pirates gained a game on the St. Louis Cardinals who lost to Minnesota 3-1 last night. The Pirates are now five games back in the N.L. Central.
