The Pittsburgh Pirates won their seventh game in a row last night with a 7-5 victory in St. Louis. The Pirates scored six runs combined in the fifth through seventh innings for their sixth comeback victory in a row. The Pirate bullpen tossed five shut-out innings after starter Jeff Locke allowed five earned runs to the Cardinals over the first four innings. A.J. Schugel won the game in relief and All-Star closer Mark Melancon picked up his 26th save. David Freese and Sean Rodriguez each hit home runs for the Bucs, who have now moved into second place in the National League Central Division. The Pirates also picked up another game on the Chicago Cubs who lost to Cincinnati 5-3 Wednesday. The Cubs lead is down to 8-1/2 games.
The Pirates play their final game of the 9-game road trip today at 1:45pm. Tyler Glasnow will make his major league debut against Adam Wainwright. WISR 680am will join the game just after 2pm. The 22-year old Glasnow was 7-2 for Triple-A Indianapolis this season with a 1.78 ERA. He also led his league with 113 strikeouts in 96 innings. He had three outings so far this year in which he did not allow an opposing team a hit.
The first 2016 MLB All-Star Game Final Vote Update was released Wednesday and Starling Marte was in second place. Fans can vote now and help Starling Marte move to the top so he can join teammate Mark Melancon at the All-Star Game in San Diego!
The Pirates and Detroit Tigers have also formed a campaign partnership encouraging fans to vote for Marte and Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler.
