The Pittsburgh Pirates won their second game in a row last night with a 4-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Ivan Nova pitched his second complete game in four starts, allowing just the one run on six hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out four. Nova is now 5-0 with a 2.52 ERA since being acquired at the trade deadline from the New York Yankees. Jung Ho Kang drove in the game-winning runs with a double in the first inning.
The Bucs host the Reds tonight at 7:05pm. Steven Brault will start for the Pirates, who are now four games back in the chase for the final Wild Card. The New York Mets lead the St. Louis Cardinals by a half game. The Mets were idle last night, while the Cards lost to Milwaukee 12-5.
The Pirates have announced they will skip both Jameson Taillon and Chad Kuhl’s next start in the rotation. Drew Hutchison, acquired in the Francisco Liriano deal, will start tomorrow. Gerrit Cole will return from the disabled list and take Taillon’s spot Monday.
