The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Colorado Rockies 5-3 last night in Denver. Jack Suwinski led the Bucs with three hits, including two home runs. First baseman Connor Joe added two hits. Starting pitcher Vince Velasquez earned his second win of the season, allowing three runs on five hits. He struck out seven. David Bednar earned his fifth save.
The Pirates are now 8-4 in road games this season. They complete their series in Colorado this afternoon. First pitch is 3:10pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 2:45pm.
Johan Oviedo will start today for the Pirates. He currently has a 15-1/3rd scoreless inning streak, longest in the majors this season.
The Bucs return home to open a four-game series with Cincinnati Thursday.
