The Pittsburgh Pirates visit the Texas Rangers tonight. Game time is 8:05pm. WISR pre-game is 7:40pm.
Jordan Lyles will start for the Pirates. Adrian Sampson will start for Texas. Sampson was a one-time Pirates prospect who was traded to Seattle for J.A. Happ in 2015.
The Bucs are carrying an eight-game losing streak into the game. They are currently 12-14 overall and five games out of first place in the National League Central.
The Rangers are 14-13 and two games back in the American League West.
The Pirates will have another day off Thursday following this two-game series. They return home to host the Oakland Athletics Friday.
Erie SeaWolves right-hander and 2018 Number One overall draft pick Casey Mize tossed a no-hitter last night in his Double-A debut against the Altoona Curve. It was the first-ever no-hitter by an individual pitcher at the Altoona ballpark. The Detroit farm club defeated the Pirates farm club 1-0.
Mize hit the Curve’s lead-off batter in the bottom of the first inning, then induced a double play that started a streak of 19 consecutive batters retired. He allowed a two-out walk in the seventh inning to end that streak, but struck out the next batter. He then retired the Curve in order the final two innings. Mize struck out seven, with four coming in the final three innings, and allowed just the two baserunners in his first professional complete game.
The Curve began their season 5-0, but are 6-12 since.
