The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1 last night in the first of two games in Milwaukee. Ivan Nova took the loss, despite allowing just one earned run on four hits over six innings. The Brewers scored the winning run when the first base umpire missed a call in the sixth inning and the Pirates had already lost a review challenge. Starling Marte and Adam Frazier led the Bucs with two hits each, but the team left eight men on base.
The two teams meet again today at 2:10pm. Gerrit Cole goes to the mound for the Pirates against Jimmy Nelson of the Brewers. The Pirates remain 4-1/2 games behind the Chicago Cubs, who lost to Cincinnati last night. The Brewers are now tied with St. Louis, who fell to Boston, at 1-1/2 games back.
Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco has been placed on the disabled list for the third time this season due to a hamstring injury.
