The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded starting pitcher Charlie Morton to the Philadelphia Phillies for minor league pitcher David Whitehead.
The Pirates announced the swap of right handers on Saturday. Morton, 32, had been with the Bucs since 2009, and was one of the longest tenured players on the roster.
As for the 23-year-old Whitehead, he was a 34th round pick in the 2013 MLB Draft. He also had a 4.44 ERA in 25 starts in Class A Clearwater this past season.
With the trade, the Pirates pitching rotation includes Gerrit Cole, Francisco Liriano, Jon Niese and Jeff Locke.
