The 22-year old Oviedo made the start last night when Tyler Anderson was scratched, as the Pirates were working a trade for him with the Philadelphia Phillies. That trade fell apart as the night progressed, when a medical information issue developed surrounding one of the two prospects the Phillies were going to send to the Pirates. Instead completing that trade, the Pirates sent the 31-year old left-handed Anderson to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Double-A catcher Carter Bins and a pitching prospect.
The MLB Trade deadline is Friday afternoon.
Not only another trade, but the Pirates signed another recent draft selection when they added outfielder Braylon Bishop, who had committed to the University of Arkansas. He has signed an entry contract for just shy of $270,000. The left-handed hitter was rated as the 88th-best prospect in the draft by Baseball America, and was taken in the 14th-round by the Pirates. The Bucs had now signed five of the MLB Pipeline’s top-100 draft picks.
