The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago White Sox 11-0 Monday behind a strong performance by starting pitcher Francisco Liriano. He allowed just two hits over eight innings while striking out 12. Liriano walked only one for his fourth win of the season. He lowered his ERA to 2.94 with a 4-5 record. Josh Harrison and Starling Marte each had four hits on the night. The Bucs host the White Sox again tonight at PNC Park. Game time is 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am begins at 6:40pm. Charlie Morton will start for the Bucs.
The Pirates have announced the signing of number one draft pick Kevin Newman. He will join the Pirates West Virginia team in short-season Single-A ball. The 22-year old shortstop recently completed his junior season at the University of Arizona. Newman was the 19th overall selection in the draft.
