The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 last night in Philadelphia. Adam Frazier scored the game-winner in the ninth inning on a Phillies error. Felipe Vazquez earned the victory by getting the final four outs of the game. He struck out Bryce Harper to end the game.
Rookie outfielder Bryan Reynolds had three hits, including his 14th home run of the year. Collin Moran added his 13th home run of the season. Starling Marte added two doubles
Reynolds is now batting .332 and has taken over the National League batting lead by two points over Milwaukee’s Christian Yelich and Jeff McNeil of the New York Mets.
Starting pitcher Steven Brault allowed three runs on eight hits over five innings of work.
The Pirates and Phillies complete their three-game series tonight at 6:05pm. Pre-game on WISR will be 5:40pm. Rookie Mitch Keller will start the game for the Bucs. The Pirates will head to Colorado following the game.
Keller has been named to the International League’s 2019 All-Star team and named the league’s most valuable player. He is the fourth Indianapolis Indians player to win the award, and first since Steven Brault in 2017.
