The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Miami Marlins 5-4 Sunday to take two of three games in their weekend series. Jung Ho Kang drove in two runs for the Bucs. Kevin Newman and Melky Cabrera had two hits each.
Starting pitcher Chris Archer did not allow a run in four of his five innings, but allowed all four Atlanta runs in the fourth inning. He gave up seven hits while striking out eight. Richard Rodriguez earned his first victory of the year with a scoreless sixth inning. Felipe Vazquez earned his 16th save.
The Bucs are off today and host Detroit Tuesday. Mitch Keller will make his third career start Tuesday, with Trevor Williams returning from the disabled list for Wednesday’s game.
The Pirates are now 32-39 and eight back in the National League Central. They are tied for last place with Cincinnati.
