The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 6-3 last night at Miller Park. Andrew McCutchen, Josh Bell and Jordy Mercer each drove in two runs for the Bucs. Adam Frazier had three hits in the lead-off spot and scored twice. Jared Hughes won in relief of rookie Steven Brault, who allowed three earned runs over four innings. Tony Watson earned his 14th save with a perfect ninth inning. Five relievers blanked the Brewers over the final five innings.
The Bucs and Brewers play again tonight at 8:10pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 7:45pm. Chad Kuhl will start for the Pirates. (4-3, 3.97 ERA).
The Pirates are 4-1/2 games back in the Wild Card with 12 games remaining. Currently, the New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants are tied for the two Wild Card positions. The Cardinals and Giants won last night, while the Mets lost. The Miami Marlins also won last night, and are 3-1/2 games back.
Pirates catcher Chris Stewart had knee surgery on his left knee Tuesday. He faces a six to eight week recovery period. The 34-year old Stewart is signed through 2017 with a club option for 2018.
