The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Diego Padres 6-4 Sunday to complete their 11-day, 11-game road trip 7-4. Colin Moran hit a three-run in the first inning, when the Pirates built a 4-0 lead. Joe Musgrove took that lead into the seventh inning, before he was roughed up for four runs. Three Pirates relievers closed out the final three innings, with Felipe Vazquez earning his 13th save of the season, by striking out the side in the ninth.
Elias Diaz had three hits. Moran, Adam Frazier and Bryan Reynolds had two hits each.
The Bucs took three of four from San Diego to improve to 24-20 overall. That mark is fifth-best in the National League, but third-best in the Central Division. The Pirates trail first-place Chicago by three games.
The Pirates are off today. They open a six-game homestand Tuesday when they host Colorado at 7:05pm.
