The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago White Sox 1-0 Sunday afternoon, but lost shortstop Oneil Cruz to a leg injury. Cruz was injured in a home plate collision and will miss a significant amount of time after suffering a fracture. The Pirates scored the lone run in yesterday’s game, despite managing just two hits.
Starting pitcher Johan Oviedo pitched 6-2/3rds scoreless innings. He allowed five hits and struck out five without walking a batter. David Bednar earned his fourth save.
The Bucs open a three-game series with the defending world champion Houston Astros tonight at PNC Park. First pitch is 6:35pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:10pm.
The Pirates are off to a 6-3 start. The Astros are 4-6.
