The Pirates went to extra innings for the second consecutive night against the Mets, and for the second consecutive night they had the same result: a win.
Chris Stewart and Sean Rodriguez produced RBI singles in the 14th inning to give the Pirates a 5-3. Mark Melancon shut the door in the bottom half of the 14th to pick up his 37th save.
Charlie Morton tossed six shutout innings but allowed two home runs in the 7th that tied the game up at three. Morton went 6.1 innings, allowed four hits, three runs, which one was unearned. He struck out nine while only walking one.
A two-run homer from Aramis Ramirez in the first inning was his first home-run since returning to the Pirates. Gregory Polanco followed with a towering solo home-run off of the right field foul pole in the 7th inning.
The Pirates bullpen shut out the Mets with a combined 7.2 inning, including three innings and six strikeouts from Joe Blanton.
Pirates have now won seven consecutive games in extra innings and the Pirates bullpen has won 15 straight decisions, the longest by a Pirates bullpen since the 1909 Pirates won 22 straight decisions.
The Bucs look to sweep the Mets in a three game series today. First pitch is at 1:10 p.m.
