The Pittsburgh Pirates were swept by the St. Louis Cardinals following a 7-0 loss Sunday. Pirates starter Ivan Nova allowed five earned runs over five innings. He allowed two home runs. His record fell to 11-13 overall.
The Pirates fell to 10 games under .500 at 67-77 overall. They visit the Milwaukee Brewers for three games beginning tonight. Steven Brault will start for the Bucs.
The Pirates recalled starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow after Triple-A Indianapolis was eliminated from the post-season. Glasnow began the season in the Pirates starting rotation, but was sent back to the minors after compiling a 7.45 ERA over 12 starts. He had a 1.94 ERA and 140 strikeouts over 93-1/3rd innings for Indy this season. Glasnow will start Wednesday’s game in Milwaukee.
The Cardinals and Brewers have cut the Chicago Cubs lead in the National League Central Division to two games. The Brewers swept the Cubs over the weekend.
The Washington Nationals became the first team in the Major League’s to clinch their division. The Nationals lead Miami by 20 games. The Los Angeles Dodgers still the best record in baseball, but have lost 10 games in a row. It is their worst skid in 25 years.
The Cleveland Indians have taken over the best record in the American League after winning their 18th game in a row Sunday.
