The Pittsburgh Pirates were swept by the Philadelphia Phillies in a four-game series over the weekend. The Bucs fell 3-2 in 11-innings Sunday. Trevor Williams started for the Pirates, and allowed just one hit over six innings, but allowed two runs. He walked five and struck out seven. Josh Bell tripled in the 10th inning as a pinch hitter, but the Pirates stranded him. Philadelphia then scored a run off reliever Richard Rodriguez in the 11th inning for the victory and sweep.
The Pirates have fallen to 12-10 overall, and are 1-1/2 games behind St. Louis. They are off today, and host Detroit for three games beginning Tuesday. The Cardinals come to PNC Park this weekend.
