The Pittsburgh Pirates were swept by the Cincinnati Reds following a 5-2 loss Sunday. Gerrit Cole allowed four earned runs over five innings of work and saw his record fall to 11-11. The Reds scored all five of their runs in the sixth inning. The Bucs managed just three hits in the game. Their runs came on a Jon Jaso two-run home run in the eighth inning. The Pirates have lost five in a row, and are now just two games in front of the last-place Reds.

The Pirates have cut ties with minor league pitcher Drew Hutchison. The 27-year old starter finished the Triple-A season 9-9 with a 3.56 ERA in 28 appearances with Indianapolis. The Pirates feel young pitchers have passed him on their depth chart, so the placed him on outright waivers following the Indians season. He earned $2.3 million this season in the minors, after being acquired in the Francisco Liriano.
