The Pittsburgh Pirates lost were swept by the Miami Marlins following a 3-2 loss Sunday at PNC Park. The Bucs entered the three-game series one game out of a Wild Card after winning five of six games on a west coast road trip. They are now three games behind the St. Louis Cardinals, who have the second and final National League Wild Card and 1-1/2 games behind the Marlins. Ryan Vogelsong took the loss for the Pirates. He allowed all three earned runs over six innings, although just one was an earned run. Andrew McCutchen had two of the Pirates five hits in the game.
First baseman Josh Bell, who returned to the major league’s Saturday, had a hit in three at-bats. Bell was called up when the Pirates placed third baseman Jung Ho Kang on the disabled list with a sore shoulder.
The Pirates host the Houston Astros for three games beginning tonight at 7:05pm. Jameson Taillon will start for the Bucs. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:40pm.
Rain washed out all of the Little League World Series games Sunday.
