The Pittsburgh Pirates were swept by the St. Louis Cardinals following an 8-3 loss Sunday night. Pirate starter Jon Niese allowed eight runs on 11 hits over 5-1/3rd innings and took the loss.
The loss was the Pirates fifth in a row. They have fallen to 32-31 overall and third place in the National League Central Division. The Pirates visit the New York Mets tonight at 7:10pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:45pm.
The Pirates have been bitten by the injury bug with catcher Francisco Cervelli suffering a broken hand during the series. He is out 4-6 weeks. Gerrit Cole also left his start Friday with a muscle problem.
