The Pittsburgh Pirates were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers following a 5-3 loss Thursday. It was their foruth loss in a row. The Pirates lost for the first time in 12 games that were started by Francisco Liriano. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits over five innings. Liriano walked five and struck out four. Michael Morse and Jordy Mercer led the Bucs with two hits each.
Andrew McCutchen sat out last night’s game with a sore left achilles.
The Pirates visit the first place St. Louis Cardinals for a three-game series beginning tonight. First pitch is 8:15pm. J.A. Happ will start for the Pirates (3-1, 1.98 ERA). Carlos Martinez for the Cards (13-6, 2.91 ERA). The Pirates begin the night 6-1/2 games behind St. Louis in the N.L. Central.
