The Pittsburgh Pirates swept the New York Mets in a rare twi-night doubleheader Tuesday at PNC Park. The Pirates won both games 3-1 and closer Mark Melancon became the first Pirate since Matt Capps in 2007 to earn two saves in one night. He is tied for the National League lead with 19 saves.
Jon Niese started game one and did not allow a run on four hits over seven innings. He improved his record to 6-2. In game two, Juan Nicasio allowed three hits and just one run over five innings. He walked two and struck out seven. The Pirates had 10 hits in each game.
Former number one draft pick of the Pirates Jameson Taillon will make his major league debut tonight against the Mets. Taillon was selected second overall in the 2010 draft behind Bryce Harper of Washington and will take the spot of Francisco Liriano in the Bucs rotation. Liriano, who has struggled this season, will have his start bumped to Saturday against St. Louis.
Game time tonight is 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 6:40pm.
