The Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game series sweep of the Cincinnati Reds Sunday following a 9-8 victory at PNC Park. The Pirates jumped out to an 8-3 lead by knocking Reds starting pitcher Trevor Bauer from the game by the third inning. The Pirates bullpen allowed the Reds whittle away the Pirates lead, but closer Felipe Vazquez earned his 23rd save of the year.
Shortstop Kevin Newman had four hits in the game. Outfielder Bryan Reynolds drove hit three. He is now batting .328 this season, five points back in the National League batting race.
The Pirates begin a seven-game road trip tonight in Philadelphia. First pitch is 7:05pm. WISR pre-game is 6:40pm. Joe Musgrove will start for the Bucs.
