Despite a solid outing from Jeff Locke, missed opportunities to bring in runs continued to plague the Pirates in a 2-1 loss to the Reds Sunday.
Jay Bruce walked off the Pirates after a triple scored Brandon Phillips in the 9th, giving reliever Arquimedes (Are-ka-may-dase) Caminero his first loss of the season.
The Pirates were 1-14 with runners in scoring position and left 14 runners on base. Overall on the weekend, the Pirates were 5-35 with runners on and left 34 runners stranded.
In his 2016 debut, Locke tossed six innings, allowing only one run, striking out one, and walking two.
Getting his first start of the season, Chris Stewart was responsible for the sole run for the Bucs with a solo home run in the 2nd inning.
The Pirates take on Detroit this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Jon Niese will get the start for the Bucs, meanwhile Tigers ace Justin Verlander will get the nod for Detroit.
