The Pittsburgh Pirates snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory last night over the Chicago Cubs.
Joe Musgrove earned his second win in two starts this season. He allowed one run over seven innings. Josh Harrison had two hits, including his second home run of the season. Colin Moran had three hits.
Starting pitcher Musgrove exchanged words with Cubs second baseman Javier Baez in the third inning after Musgrove had a hard slide into Baez attempting to break up a double play. Both benches cleared after the second such “incident” in the series.
The Bucs are off to St. Louis to begin a four-game series with the Cardinals. First pitch tonight is 7:15pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 6:50pm. Trevor Williams goes to the mound for the Pirates.
The Pirates are 29-26 and a game behind the Cards. They are 1-1/2 games behind the Cubs, six behind first-place Milwaukee.
Stephen Aemais capped a three-hit night with a walk-off single and completed a comeback 4-3 victory for the Altoona Curve over the Akron RubberDucks Wednesday in Altoona. The Curve improved to 24-24 this season. They complete their series with Akron this morning at 10:30am for “Education Day”.
The Butler BlueSox begin their Prospect League season tonight when they host Champion City at 7:05pm.
