The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs 7-1 Sunday. Ivan Nova returned from the disabled list and allowed one run on four hits while pitching into the sixth inning. He struck out eight to earn his third victory of the season. Josh Harrison and Eliaz Diaz had two hits each. Gregory Polanco had a three-run triple.
The Bucs are now 32-33 overall, seven games behind the Milwaukee Brewers. They begin a three-game series in Arizona tonight. Joe Musgrove will start for the Pirates. Game time tonight is 9:40pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 9:15pm.
The Pirates sent utility player Adam Frazier to Indianapolis and promoted catcher Jacob Stallings. The move necessary after Francisco Cervelli left Saturday’s game after being struck in the jaw by a fall ball.
Infielder Jung Ho Kang was promoted Sunday from Single-A Bradenton to Triple-A Indianapolis. Kang is attempting to resume his career derailed by a third DUI arrest in South Korea. He had 10 hits, including three home runs in 24 plate appearances for Bradenton.
