The Pittsburgh Pirates snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park. Jung Ho Kang hit his 17th home run of the season, the game-winner in the eighth inning. He had three hits in the game. Trevor Williams made his major league debut in relief of Jameson Taillon, and picked up the win. He allowed one unearned run over three innings. Closer Tony Watson earned the save with a perfect ninth inning, after allowing three home runs to the Cardinals the night before. It was his 11th save of the season.
The losing streak was the longest for the Pirates since 2011. The win put the Pirates at 4-1/2 games out of the final Wild Card. San Francisco is the top Wild Card. The Cardinals are now tied with the New York Mets for that final spot.
The Bucs begin a four-game series with the Cincinnati Reds tonight. First pitch is 7:05pm Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:40pm. Ivan Nova will start for the Pirates.
