The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Detroit Tigers 3-0 last night at PNC Park. Starting pitcher Trevor Williams allowed just one hit over seven innings. He walked two and struck out five for his fifth victory of the season. Juan Nicasio struck out two in the ninth to earn his second save. He followed newly acquired reliever George Kontos, who pitched a perfect eighth inning. Jon Jaso hit a two-run pinch-hit home run in the seventh inning.
The Bucs improved to 55-57 overall and the Pirates remain 4-1/2 games back in the Central Division. The Chicago Cubs defeated San Francisco 5-3 last night.
The Pirates host the Tigers again tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:40pm. Chad Kuhl will start for the Bucs.
