The Pittsburgh Pirates opened their four-game series in St. Louis with a 5-0 victory last night. Connor Joe and Rudolfo Castro hit back-to-back home runs and starting pitcher Vince Velasquez tossed six scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and struck out six.
Ji Hwan Bae had a single, scored a run, and had two stellar defensive catches. He made a diving catch and caught a fly ball while crashing into the wall in centerfield.
After having two hits in the game, Carlos Santana had to leave the game with a hand injury. For the second time in a week, the Pirates had a player injured in a play at home plate.
First pitch tonight in St. Louis is 8:15pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 7:50pm.
