The San Francisco Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3 Thursday afternoon at PNC Park. Pirate starter Jon Niese allowed five runs on seven hits over his six innings of work. Most of the damage came in a four-run third inning, when he allowed a bases-clearing triple. The Bucs lost three of four games to the Giants, and have now lost 20 of their past 26 games. Their record has fallen to 34-39 overall.
The Pirates host the Los Angeles Dodgers for another four-game series beginning tonight. Jameson Taillon will make his fourth major league start tonight. Game time is 7:05pm at PNC Park.
